Evie Flynn
Counsellor & Psychotherapist

MY Story

Hi, I’m Evie

I am a qualified and fully accredited Integrative Counsellor / Psychotherapist – I work with thoughts, feelings, behaviours and somatic experiences to find out what is preventing my clients from living the life they want to live. My approach is professional, relaxed and friendly. My client’s well-being is always at the centre of therapy. Confidentiality is always top priority.
I attained my BA (hons) from Munster Technology University and I am a member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).
My clinic overlooks the strand in Youghal where I work face-to-face with clients who travel from Cork City, East Cork and West Waterford. I also work online with clients from all over Ireland.

My fees (some, if not all) are covered by most health insurance companies including Aviva, Irish Life, Laya and VHI.
I tailor therapy to each clients needs. Key to my approach is identifying objectives and goals for our work together such as:

  • Experiencing feelings of inner peace, value and belonging
  • Connecting with a sense of inner purpose
  • Experiencing the freedom to live life without feeling burdened or guilty
  • Connecting more in relationships
  • Overcoming feelings of anxiety or depression
  • Overcoming trauma (complex trauma and PTSD)

I use a number of therapeutic frameworks including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Attachment, NeuroAffective Relational Model for Restoring Connection, Person Centred Therapy, Life Script and Transactional Analysis, Solution Focused Therapy including elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). All sessions last 50 minutes.

What is EMDR Therapy ?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. EMDR is a research-backed type of therapy used for the treatment of trauma and anxiety.

It works by overriding distorted belief systems that are linked to past experiences and unprocessed trauma(s). It updates our internal programme so that we can experience life without intrusion of old negative emotions and beliefs.

I use EMDR to treat:

  • Negative life experiences and / or traumatic events including failed relationships, panic attacks, complex developmental trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • To clear symptoms such as binge eating, fears and phobias.
  • To transform limiting core beliefs such as “I am not good enough”, “I don’t matter”, “I’m powerless”, “I can’t, I’m not capable”, to “I am good enough and I deserve (respect)”, “I am significant”, “I have choices”, “I am capable and I can succeed”.

Most of us can identify with periods of feeling sad or down. Depression is more than this, it persists for…

Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life, for example before an exam time or job interview…

It is so disheartening when we give ourselves to someone and we do not get the result we hoped for…

When we esteem ourselves we say, I hope you like me, but I do not need you to because I am happy and…

Relationship with Food

Our mind is intrinsically linked to our body and our body is constantly communicating within its cells…

Relationship with Body

We all have a version of “I am enough” and “if only, then I will be happy”. However, consistently…

My first book, Honouring Your True Self is an approach to honouring who you are so that you can belong in relationships that matter. It was born out of my desire to uncover the behaviours that support a true emotional connection and bring into sharp focus the self-limiting behavioural patterns that prevent relationships from developing and growing.

As part of this discovery, I devised a Self Centred Approach, which is based on self-regard, compassion and value. It includes tools that can be set into motion as you embark on the path to building relationships where meaning, trust and belonging lie at the very core. As part of this process, I provide insights into the emotional and psychological shifts that occur in romantic relationships and support you in creating meaningful connections where you can remain steady and grounded and at the same time allow intimacy to develop and grow.

My First Book

When we open to our true humility, we allow ourselves to be seen. From this place, we can truly see others.
